What is a Wasp?
Paper Wasps are one of the first insects to become active in the early spring (April/May) as the temperatures begin to warm. Wasps will also remain active throughout the entire summer as they continue to build their nests virtually anywhere; inside window frames, on overhangs, in attic vents, under outdoor furniture, or on play equipment. They are moderately aggressive and will readily sting if they feel threatened or if you accidentally get too close to the nest.
Why do I have them?
During the spring and summer months wasps may be very active around structures for several reasons:
- They are collecting wood from wooden play sets, deck railings, fences or bark of trees. This wood is then used to make paper for nest building.
- They are looking for food resources in trees and shrubs. Paper wasps are predators and feed on a variety of other insects that are present on bushes, shrubs, flowers and trees.
- They may have built a nest on the structure.
Cooper’s Wasp Control Program
Most people are afraid of bees and usually try to avoid a confrontation with them. At Cooper, we believe the best way to avoid these confrontations at your home is to prevent them from building their nests! However, if you have a nest that requires immediate attention, please contact us today.
At Cooper Pest Solutions, we have unique treatment and prevention programs for Wasps, Yellow Jackets, and Carpenter Bees. Following are the details of our Wasp prevention service.
Cooper’s Wasp Prevention Program for New Jersey and Pennsylvania residents:
The goal of Cooper’s Wasp prevention program is the prevent paper wasps from building their nests on homes, decks, swing sets, storage sheds, etc. By preventing nest building, the presence of Wasps will be greatly reduced.
One treatment will prevent nest development for up to six months. During the early spring, a preventative application targeting areas where wasps tend to build their nests will be made to the first story. In addition, we will treat the second story near “high profile” areas such as the entrance to your home. A service plan extends through September. However, if during this time a nest is discovered in or on a structure we've already treated we will treat this area(s) at NO ADDITIONAL COST. All you need to do is call, and we will respond promptly to your request. A scheduled follow up service to inspect your home is also included.
The treatment also deters Carpenter Bees from tunneling into wood and Yellow Jackets are also deterred from nesting in wall voids of the structure in treated areas. This is at No Additional Cost!
Why are we smarter?
Our knowledge of wasp biology allows us to create cutting-edge treatments to successfully eliminate residential wasp problems. The Cooper methodology is based onscientific research, which is what sets us apart from the competition. While our competitors focus on trying to remove wasps, Cooper offers a service that actually prevents wasps from nesting on your home, decks, swing sets, storage sheds, etc. Our residential wasp prevention service is offered as a one-time service and is also included with our Home Intensive or Home Traditional services.
How is Cooper’s methodology proven to prevent wasps?
By preventing nest building, the presence of Wasps will be greatly reduced. The treatment also deters Carpenter Bees from tunneling into wood and Yellow Jackets are also deterred from nesting in wall voids of the structure in treated areas. This is at no additional cost!
In the event that you find another pest control company offering wasp prevention services, we recommend that you ask them “how are you treating for wasps?”, “what areas of my home will you treat?", and “how long will wasps be prevented from nesting?” At Cooper Pest Solutions, we guarantee wasps will be 100% prevented and that you will be “wowed” by our service.
Smarter = Wasp Prevention
Why should I be concerned with Wasps?
Paper wasps are not an aggressive species by nature, but will sting if they are disturbed or their nest is threatened. Wasp stings are painful and in some cases can cause an allergic reaction.
When should Wasp Prevention Begin?
Generally, during the last two weeks of April in most years, and the earlier in the spring the better. Wasps begin building their nests in April; thus Cooper’s preventative programs initiated early in the year will discourage Wasps from building their nests in areas which have been treated. Programs which are initiated later in the season may also require reactive measures in order to control the Wasps which have already established their nests on the structure or within soffits and wall voids. Once the active nests are treated the prevention treatment will be made. We also perform two follow up service inspections for bees that may have made nests away from our treatment areas.
What are the areas of my home that are treated?
Areas to be treated include:
- First Story Soffits
- First Story Windows
- Behind Shutters (First & Second Story)
- Light Fixtures attached to structure
- Dryer Vents
- First Story Gutters
- Corners or Edges of Structure
- Meter Boxes
- Areas with historic activity
- Decks....and other areas specific to your home
Can I treat Wasps myself?
Using over the counter products to treat Wasps and bees can agitate them and potentially cause them to sting you multiple times. Also if the Wasps are nesting behind the side of a treated area, this may actually push the Wasps inside and they are likely to reappear elsewhere.
Is the treatment environmentally friendly?
There are many eco-friendly options available, additionally all products used by Cooper Pest Solutions are EPA registered for pest control use. Our highly trained pest control professionals will follow all appropriate label requirements in an effort to keep pets and humans safe.
