Protecting the Health of Your Family and Pets

As homeowners with pets and children, we wanted to create the greenest most effective pest control service we possibly could. A service that provides effective pest management and will protect the health of your family and pets by using a combination of natural, botanical, eco-friendly, and organic materials. Quite simply, we wanted to create a service that is tough on bugs, and friendly for pets, people, and the planet.

From Environmentally Conscious to Cooper Green

If you’re familiar with Cooper, you already know that all of our programs are designed to be environmentally conscious. However, there is a difference between being environmentally conscious and being completely green, and we are very excited to introduce you to our Green service option.

We’re Green. Completely Green.

While others may say they provide a green or natural pest control service; Cooper has developed a cutting-edge program that is completely green and eco-friendly.

You may see other companies advertise that they provide “safe pest control,” “organic pest control,” or a service that is “all-natural,” “green,” “non-toxic”, “earth-friendly,” or “eco-friendly” because they use some natural materials. We just ask that before you make a decision to purchase a service described as "organic" or "safe", that you please take the time to thoroughly investigate those companies. To help you make an informed decision when purchasing a green pest control service, following is a checklist to determine if the pest control service you're considering is truly green.

Checklist to determine if a pest control service is really green:

check-circle.pngAsk if any of the materials included in their green program contain pyrerthroids or synergists. If the answer is yes, the program is not “Green”.

The first thing we recommend is asking the pest control company "what are the methods and materials that you use to control pests?".  Most pesticides used by the pest control industry are low in toxicity, but not “green.” Many are synthetic pyrethroids, such as Demand, Suspend, Cykick, Bifenthrin Granules, etc. These materials are by no means natural or classified as reduced-risk pesticides, and they are definitely not “green.”

check-circle.pngFind out how many of the products are either 1, EPA Exempt (25b list), 2. Botanical (naturally derived from plants), 3. Desiccant materials, or 4. EPA Reduced-risk status.

Products that do not fit into one of these 4 categories are unlikely to be Green. The terms “green” or “organic” imply that the service being purchased is based upon non-chemical measures and the use of naturally occurring pesticides. Based upon this perspective, to deliver a truly “green” pest control service, only those products that come from earth-based materials such as borates, desiccant dusts such as diatomaceous earth and silica, or botanical insecticides and pesticides classified in 25b by the EPA (EPA exempt materials) can be used. Active ingredients that meet the criterion for EPA Exemption (Category 25b) are listed here.

Check out the company’s website.

Before you hire a green pest control company, we also recommend checking the pest management company’s website to ensure that they are promoting a green service and to ensure their service fully meets your expectations.  If a door to door salesperson is selling a green service, please also be sure to check the company's website before signing an agreement.
