The Research entomologist carries out research as directed by the President and other members of management exploring new equipment, materials, new services, and improving existing services. The Research Entomologist provides technical assistance to the operations team and provides services and consultations to clients. Your training
The Research Entomologist undergoes an extensive paid training program to educate them on a variety of subjects regarding pesticides, government regulations, customer perception, methods of providing service and approaches to solving pest problems. An emphasis is placed upon resolving problems with the least reliance on pesticides and a greater reliance on knowledge of specific pest life history, biology and behavior. The concept and principles of Integrated Pest Management will be fostered in order to provide pest control services that minimize the use of pesticides as well as exposure to pesticides. The training process is a continuous one and will include approximately 30 hours of ongoing education per year in addition to the training that all new staff undergoes.
What will a day at Cooper look like?
One of the primary tasks you will be responsible as a Research Entomologist is developing treatment protocols for all general pests. This would include revising and updating current protocols as well as creating new protocols for any emerging pests. In many instances you will be working in the field servicing clients and assisting some of our more complex, expert-specific programs. You may be required to perform some general services in order to evaluate and insure consistency in our protocols. In addition to writing protocols, you may be required to assist in the writing and implementation of protocol for funded grant work. You will also be required to train both managers and technical staff on new protocol as well as present information in a professional manner to both Cooper employees as well as professional forums. A good understanding of all of the primary Microsoft programs as well as minimum of 40-words per minute are required to fulfill this position.

Basic Qualifications:
At least 18 years of age.

Typical Hours, Wages, and Benefits
The starting rate for a Research entomologist is $60,000 yearly.
An average workweek consists of approximately 55 hours per week during the months of April through September and approximately 50 hours per week during the months of October through March. Included in the hours described above, are scheduled Saturdays. Approximately 15 Saturdays per year are scheduled for each research entomologist and the hours range from 4-7 hours per Saturday depending upon the time of season.
